The wilderness is the final phase of the redevelopment of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral’s campus, and sits adjacent to John Moore’s University Design Academy. Landscape Projects have designed a series of break out spaces for the students, links to the cathedral and new habitats gaining a BREEAM excellent rating for the landscape design.
To the north, the demolition of the old Liverpool workhouse buildings allowed for a new addition to the Liverpool Science Park, designed by Falconer Chester Hall Architects. Whilst to the East the new design academy by Rick Mather faces on to the space from Duckenfield St.
The project involved extensive consultation with advisory bodies as diverse as CABE, 20th Century Society, Liverpool Art and Design Trust, Historic Churches Commission, for approval of a project in the grounds of a Grade 1 listed building. The scheme has won several awards and has transformed the relationship between the Cathedral and the city.
