Landscape Projects was awarded the Hulme Park project as a result of a design competition. The Park was to form part of the comprehensive redevelopment of Hulme, an area of deprivation characterised by its windswept open spaces and bleak housing.
The Park design establishes a physical framework defined and overlooked by the surrounding streets, and crossed by a Promenade and Active Walk; three distinctive zone (Sports, Play and Arts) are united by a flexible green lawn and carefully designed tree planting, around which are disposed serial gardens, each supporting local residents desires for activity areas.
Serial gardens range from basketball and teenage hang-out, through tree gardens and a sensory garden, to the Treasure Island play area, and the Zion Square bandstand.
The Park, which was completed in 2000, won a Civic Trust Award 2000, and has been cited by the Design Council as an exemplary project in it's publication 'Design out Crime'.
The project demonstrates Landscape Projects ability to design to a high standard, while implementing a complex and costly project to time and to budget.
