Landscape Projects worked with Proctor and Matthews Architects on a new sustainable residential development in South London's Docklands. The scheme proposed 211 residential units and a new health centre supported by a network of pedestrian priority, shared surface streets and varied public realm amenity spaces.
The challenge was to integrate the new development into its wider context and to create special places for people to interact and build the new community. This was achieved through redefining the street as a place for all; a shared space including, but not exclusive to cars as a lively interface between the homes and streets. A new public space outside the school with new fruit trees, a large integrated play space and tranquil garden is proposed where parents, teachers, children and residents can come together. We are currently working with artists and the school children to develop the design of their garden.
