Client: Brighton & Hove City Council
Completed: 2006
Architecture: Gehl Architects
The city of Brighton and Hove has a world-class reputation for its creative, leisure and cultural industries, and attract millions of visitors. Brighton and Hove's dramatic setting, sandwiched between the sea and the south downs, constrains movement patterns, access and perceptions of the city. As a result parts of the city are relatively inaccessible and ignored, while other areas suffer from overwhelming traffic congestion.
Landscape Projects, working with Gehl Architects from Copenhagen, were commissioned by BHCC to assess the urban structure, movement patterns and open air activities, in winter and summer, and to provide advice on public realm improvement projects which would result in a more walkable, relaxed, attractive and accessible city.
